best cabo san lucas hotels

If you’re looking for through all the Cabo hotels in Cabo San Lucas for the perfect one – then look no further, I have the perfect one for you. Well they aren’t “PERFECT” but its very close to it. This is my honest review of Hotel Tesoro in Cabo San Lucas – and let me tell you, I’ll be back. For Reference: I last stayed at Hotel Tesoro in January 2022.

I personally checked all the hotels on Booking.com when reviewing my choices of Cabo San Lucas Hotels. Don’t get confused when reviewing your hotel options either – there is a much less expensive part of Cabo that is not by the beach or marina – about 30 minutes away, closer to the airport. I would not recommend staying there if you’re looking for the typical on the beach & on the water Cabo experience.

Cabo San Lucas is made up of a marina and a beach side. If you stay at the marina you have very easy access to all the activities plus a ton of restaurants and you’re super close to so many great things. Plus if you need to get to the beach side you can just grab an Uber and $5 USD (yes $5!) you’re at the beach! I read extensively about the all-inclusive resorts and just couldn’t find one that had good reviews for the food. There were so many bad reviews for the different all inclusive cabo hotels everywhere I looked so I decided to stick to a breakfast only type hotel and go enjoy the local cuisine & boy am I glad I did!

Thats just part of the reason why I think Hotel Tesoro is one of the best Resorts to stay at in Cabo San Lucas – here are.a few more:

Pricing

When I compared Hotel Tesoro to Dreams, the RIU properties and more I found the pricing to be a LOT better then the other hotels. In fact I am so glad we didn’t stay at the RIU because I was in a collectivo dropping off guests before we made it to my hotel and their driveway/access to the highway is not pleasant at all. It wasn’t upkept outside the resort walls. You literally can’t leave the property without calling a taxi or uber because its just surrounded by dirt roads and highway – you’re a good 15-20 minutes from the downtown area of Cabo. I am not a resort person, I like to explore the area so this was an instant “oh I wouldn’t have enjoyed this” to me when I saw that.

Food

Hotel Tesoro has an optional All-Inclusive program but we opt’d for the breakfast plan because there are so many amazing restaurants near the hotel plus drinks are cheap!

Hotel Tesoro has TWO breakfast options apart of the breakfast plan. You can go sit in the restaurant with the ala-carte menu and pick whatever you’d like off it or you can go upstairs to the restaurant near the pool and enjoy the amazing buffet.

Hotel Tesoro’s breakfast/brunch buffet is next level. From Juice & Coffee to an Omlette station, pancakes, beans, rice, chicken, home made french toast – all right next to the pool overlooking the marina. You really cant ask for a better start to your day. If you don’t feel like leaving the hotel for the day, just go to breakfast with your bathing suit on under your clothes and after breakfast you are 30 feet from the pool. Did I mention breakfast goes until NOON? Yes, Noon! One day they even had a taco bar with some super yummy tacos.

Covid Testing

Hotel Tesoro has an actual clinic within the hotel. You can schedule your test, pay the front desk $23 and go your antigen test. They have PCR & Antigen testing, I unfortunately don’t know the price of the PCR test. The guys working in the testing clinic are extremely nice. I found out that theyve been open for 8 monthes nad it was very clear it was needed. Every time I walked by it was busy. Results from the Antigen come to your email after an hour, at most.

Wifi

This is the only con you’re going to hear from me. If you are the person that needs WiFi you might struggle here. The Internet was hit or miss and you only got a code for 1mb a day which is very little. Now if your cell phone provider covers mexico you have no worries. When I wrote this in my review I was informed that was the #1 complaint and they were working on upgrading the wifi Situation so that was good to hear. It wasn’t horrible enough that I won’t be back. The desk was willing to give me multiple access codes when I needed to work from my laptop for a few hours too.

Rooms

When we stayed at Tesoro we all stayed in Suites, which I would definitely recommend. I read the standard rooms are a tad small so we decided to just opt for suites and Im glad we did. The suites all had balconies that faced the marina so we were all able to walk up and watch sunrise. There was room service everyday if you wanted it. The water pressure was great in the standing shower too. I can’t think of anything I’d change in my overall room experience.

Surrounding Area

I felt very safe walking around Cabo San Lucas. There was never a time that I felt unsafe. I walked by myself or with my group to several places nearby and had zero issues. There is an Oxxo (corner store) across the street with snacks, water, beer, electrolytes & all sorts of misc things you might need. Try the cheetos, theyre so good! All at a good price.

ATM’s

There is an ATM in the lobby of the hotel that has a great rate. There are also 3 across from the main lobby and the 3rd one outside the glass encased area has a decent rate too. The two ATM’s within the glass enclosure had a bad rate.

Summary

Is Hotel Tesoro a 5 star resort? No. But you cant find a cabo hotel with a better location. I personally think they’re the best hotel in Cabo San Lucas. We made small talk with a few couples on our boat one day & heard from these couples that they had stayed at Tesoro when they started their trip and moved to an all-inclusive and regretted it. They were so far from everything and Uber’s weren’t allowed on the property so they had to walk off the hotel property to catch them. Needless to say it made me feel good walking back in – having picked Tesoro as my first and only hotel choice for my 12 days in Cabo San Lucas.
