This trip is quite an active trip, and will involve hiking on some unique surfaces that may require a secure footing, whilst other days will involve bike riding and kayaking. Some days may involve moving all day long, and we would love for those of you who enjoy a full-on adventure to join us on this amazing, view filled trip!

You’ve made it to the beautiful island of São Miguel!

As everyone will be arriving at different times, we will meet slowly throughout the day and go out to explore as much of this beautiful town as possible. There will be airport transfers arranged to pick you up and drop you at the hotel for an afternoon check-in; then it’s time to explore!

This evening we will come together for our first group dinner, and toast to the week ahead!

Why must we choose between land and water – Why not both?!
After breakfast, let’s head out to find your new best friends: the whales!

This tour is going to be a once in a lifetime opportunity for many of you, and will truly be an adventure to remember, so charge up your phones and let’s head out to search for whales and dolphins off Ponta Delgada. You’ll be meeting local biologists and guides who will explain all about the environment these stunning animals live in, and the way we can keep them safe and healthy.

You will then enjoy a tasty lunch at a local restaurant before heading back into the center of the island to the top of mountain Serra da Agua de Pau, also known as Pico da Barrosa. You will get to view the stunning Fogo Lake, and admire into the volcano’s crater.

Peer into the vivid coloured blue lake, one of the most beautiful lakes on the island, and breathe in the fresh air surrounding you.  As you come down the mountain, you will get the chance to bathe in a thermal pool and waterfall, surrounded by endemic fauna and flora.

Day 3 :
July 29th

Today after a hearty breakfast, you will spend half your day going canyoneering. You will see some incredible views, so make sure your phone is all charged up to get that perfect grid photo!

The rest of the day is yours to enjoy, or we can discuss some ideas as smaller groups within our group chat as the trip draws closer!

After breakfast, you will head out onto an exciting Jeep Tour, combining dirt paths with kayaking and bicycle activities at Lagoa das Sete Cidades.

You will adventure to the top of Sete Cidades caldera, taking time to stop at some of the best views of the luscious area surrounding you. There will also be a small stop-off in the center of Sete Cidades village, before continuing on to find your next adventure aboard a bike or kayak!
By exploring the land in this way, you’ll really get to hear and feel the way the nature lives around you, giving you more time to enjoy the surrounding nature and crisp air. This is truly the best way to reconnect with nature.

Let’s head off on another day of seeing as much as possible! You’ll get time to experience the volcanic origins of Furnas, a place full of geothermal activity.

The first stop-off today will be a visit to experience some local teas, before going onto Caldeiras das Furnas to visit the famous fumaroles and taste gaso carbonic mineral waters from different springs – never have you tasted such fresh water!
You’ll then continue your journey to a local restaurant to taste some of the famous “Cozido” – a national stew part of Portuguese heritage, a truly historical experience made by those who know it best! It is a mixture of regional vegetables and meats cooked with the help of volcanic activity – this is an extremely special meal cooked with Earth’s natural steam.

After lunch, you will head to the centenary Terra Nostra botanical garden, where you will explore the extraordinary collection of native plants. You can even go for a dip, surrounded by the natural wonders, in the iron-rich hot water swimming pool, heated to the beautiful temperature of 95-104°F.

Day 6 :
August 1st

On your final full day, you will spend it adventuring one of the most beautiful hikes that Sao Miguel Island has to offer.

You will hike around the circular Faial da Terra – Salto do Prego trail, visiting a well hidden village in the mountain where you will get to see how the local smaller villages live.

There will be time to stop off at the amazing waterfall Salto do Prego to cool off and unwind underneath is natural beauty, before continuing on to your next adventure.

You will take to the road to explore various viewpoints along the coastline of Nordeste. There will be plenty of opportunities to take some beautiful photos to show off to all your family, and use your final day to really get to see all the different sites the island can offer. Your final stop – the beautiful  Park of Ribeira dos Caldeirões – where you will enjoy one final waterfall, before heading back to the hotel to celebrate your final night.

Today it’s time to head home!

Does this trip include flights?

International flights to and from the trip destination are not included. Only flights that are included are listed in inclusions. Looking for cheap flights? Check out Kayak.com or Google Flights!

What is the refund policy?

Once the trip is confirmed with 8 spots booked, the 25% deposit is non-refundable. Additional payments over the 25% are refundable until we are 60 days out from the trip.

At the 60 day mark all payments are due and the trip is 100% non-refundable.

If you need to cancel your spot prior to 60 days before the trip starts, there is a $100 cancelation fee and the remainder can be used on a future Adventuring for Life trip.

If you cancel 1-59 days prior to the trip, it is 100% non-refundable.

Travel Insurance is highly recommended, especially for ALL International Trips, to protect you in case you do have to cancel at any point.

Is there a payment plan?

You only have to put 25% down upfront. Then you can pay as you like until June 27th when any remaining payments must be paid.

How does roommate matching work?

The majority of the people that sign up for the trips with adventuring for life are coming solo! We do an extensive Roommate matching survey before each trip to help match people up that have the same vibe. You are welcome to bring a friend or request a certain roommate after you’ve met the girls on the group chat or let us pick somebody for you.

We offer solo rooms on certain trips for people that want their own space but you are 100% welcome to sign up by yourself and we will get you a great roommate.

Are there are restrictions on this trip?

Due to the nature of this trip, there are a few restrictions on who is able to join us.

You must have a minimum height of 1.2m, your weight cannot be below 20kg (44lbs) or above 120kg (265lbs), and your waist cannot be above 55iches.

We apologise for any issues this may cause, but these restrictions are there to keep everyone safe and secure, and relate to the safety equipment used during the trip.

Please let us know if you have any questions, or need any further advice in this area to confirm if you’re eligible before joining this trip.

Trip Facts

  • There will be 8-16 Girls on this trip.
  • There is A LOT of walking in Spain & Portugal. Expect to walk 10k-20k steps per day with the cities being the most steps. You're expected to be able to handle your own luggage through airports & on/off transportation as well.
